Mac Allister: “Last season they let me know that the idea was, for now, not to renew my contract”
The Argentinian spoke about the future
If nothing changes before June 30, 2028, Alexis Mac Allister will be a free agent in two summers. The Argentine international, an undisputed starter in Iraola’s Liverpool midfield , is aware of this… and speaks frankly about the uncertainty surrounding his future. And although he confesses to being very happy at Anfield, he isn’t ruling anything out.
“Anything can happen before I become a free agent. We find ourselves in a situation where I have a year and a half left on my contract, and where last season they let me know that the club’s idea was not to renew my contract, at least for now. And well, obviously it was a painful situation,“ Mac Allister himself acknowledged in an interview with Gastón Edul.

A situation that is certainly surprising… because Mac Allister, 27, has been an important player for Liverpool since arriving from Brighton back in 2023.
Mac Allister’s plans, if they depended solely on him, seem clear: to stay. “I still have time left at this club, which is what I want most: to stay here,” he confessed. “But the reality is that the coach has changed, the sporting director has changed, and new investors are coming to the club. So I think that today I find myself in a situation where anything can happen, and well, we’ll see what the future holds. I’m happy here,” he added.
