Gordon and Kane light up the ‘Three Lions’ in Prague
The English team completed a very complete match against the Czech Republic and earned their first three points in the Nations League
England arrived in Prague needing all three points after their 2-3 defeat to Spain at Wembley . They faced Santi Denia’s Czech Republic , who had also lost to Croatia (1-2) . Sulc was shown a red card very early on (in the 22nd minute) for a reckless challenge on Elliott Anderson . Despite this, England failed to score in the first half, but Gordon headed home to make it 1-0 early in the second. Harry Kane soon followed , adding a second with a left-footed shot.
England started stronger , dominating possession in Prague . However, the first real chance fell to the Czech Republic when Sulc capitalized on a mistake by Anderson in a previous touch. The Czechs continued to press and had another good opportunity after a long-range shot from Cerv that narrowly missed the English goal. England tried to respond, and Morgan Rogers’ shot struck the post.
It seemed the Czechs could create danger without much effort. They sat deep and launched quick counter-attacks , exploiting the Three Lions ‘ defensive fragility … until Sulc received a straight red card for a reckless studs-up challenge on Anderson ‘s leg , leaving his teammates with 10 men for over 60 minutes …
From this point on, the dynamic was very similar: England passed the ball around , while the Czechs sat back and waited for their chances. Gordon tried his luck with a left-footed shot, but Kovar caught it without much trouble. Lewis-Skelly received England’s first yellow card for a stamp on Cerv . Karabec was also injured and had to be replaced by Lingr . The first half ended without the English creating any clear danger in the opposition’s penalty area.
Tuchel made a change at halftime, bringing on Eze for the booked Lewis-Skelly, looking for more firepower up front. Ambros tried his luck from outside the box, but Trafford was alert to make the save. Gordon (the man of the match) also came on for Gibbs-White in the 81st minute, and the game ended with England clearly the better side.
